A Little Background
With the relocation of the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants from New York, the spot was created for a new baseball franchise. At the same time, the Continental League appeared in talks as the third major league to join the National League and the American League. However, the National league decided to expand by including two new teams and offered one of the franchises to the proposed New York team of the Continental League. The new league was never formed, but the National league succeeded to form the new baseball team as the New York Mets.

The Mets have managed to win two World Series titles so far. The first World Series title was won by the team in 1969 by defeating the Baltimore Orioles. In 1986, the Mets won their second and last World Series title against the Boston Red Sox. In addition, the Mets have won four National League pennants and five East Division titles.
